In Act 3 of Expedition 33, you can skip directly to the final act. However, there’s plenty more to explore across the continent before your journey concludes. Esquie’s new flying ability unlocks a vast array of new locations – so many that it becomes challenging to manage them all with the game’s smaller map.
The Fountain
Upon reaching Act 3, you’ll find the nearest point of interest is The Fountain, nestled in a secluded glade within the western mountains from Spring Meadows, your initial landing spot on the continent. However, whether there’s something noteworthy at The Fountain depends on the actions you’ve taken prior to this point.
As I step foot on this island, I can feel the tension in the air – this is where the hardest and remaining friendly Nevrons reside. The actions I took with the ones I’ve met along my adventure will determine its reaction towards me. If I made a habit of eliminating them, it’ll be ready for a fight from the get-go. But if I chose to spare them, I have the choice whether or not to engage in combat with this one.
Flying Casino
Located centrally on the map is the Floating Casino, but its name might lead you to expect something more thrilling than it actually is. Similar to the casino in Gestral Village, upon visiting, you’ll find it closed with an uncommunicative occupant within. Speak to this individual as Monoco, and they will provide you with a stylish tuxedo suitable for Gestral – allowing you to depart promptly.
Siréne’s Dress
In the eastern region near Siréne, a secluded spot becomes accessible once you’ve progressed in Lune’s relationship storyline. Spending time with her at the campsite can help strengthen your bond with her. Here, you’ll encounter a more challenging, chromatic incarnation of the cloth-snake boss you previously fought in Siréne. Additionally, you’ll gain some resolution regarding Lune’s parents’ fate during their Expedition.
Sacred River
In the valley north of Monoco’s train station lies the pivotal site, the Sacred River, significant to Monoco’s bonding journey as he strives to resurrect Noco. Upon your arrival, Golgra will challenge you, and you’ll need to vanquish them in a fight featuring only Monoco and Verso as your companions. Additionally, a Gestral Merchant can be found here, offering a variety of precious items worth considering for purchase.
The Reacher
As a gamer in this immersive world, I found myself faced with The Reacher, the third Axion that Verso repeatedly warned me not to engage during my journey. Even when I gained the ability to soar through the skies with Esquie, Verso stubbornly refused to grant me access to a certain location until I embarked on Maelle’s relationship quest.
The path ahead was fraught with challenges; a colossal tower teeming with peculiar enemies stood between me and my destination. With grit in my teeth, I scaled the treacherous heights, overcoming each obstacle that dared to block my progress. At last, after what felt like an eternity, I reached the summit, where the truth behind why Verso had been so insistent on keeping me away was finally revealed.
Gestral Beach (Northeast)
To your left, as you approach the coastline in the northeastern part of the map near where the Paintress stands, lies the final Gestral Beach nestled within a watery basin. This task demands you to ascend a towering structure while avoiding errant sprays of water that cascade from above. Successfully completing it rewards Maelle with new Swimsuit outfits, similar to other beach challenges.
Floating Cemetary
In this location, you’ll encounter another amiable Nevron, hesitant about its preferred weapon of choice. You’ll be tasked with making that decision for it, followed by a confrontation in a duel. Once you’ve emerged victorious, you have the option to engage it again – this time with the objective being its permanent elimination. The decision is ultimately yours; however, keep in mind the information we shared earlier about Nevrons from The Fountain.
Dark Gestral Arena
The hidden Gestral Arena is one of several attempts by various Gestrals to conceal it from Golgra, yet it’s unclear how they planned to do so given its prominent location in the sky. Nevertheless, this mysterious site presents a fresh series of battles for you, with the restriction that only one party member can enter at a time. Consequently, the encounters turn out to be quite challenging.
Endless Night Sanctuary
In this section inspired by Gestral, you’ll encounter numerous reassembled adversaries, including an enhanced form of the game’s prior ultimate beast. This area doesn’t offer any unique features, but it serves as an effective leveling ground in Act 3. The high-level enemies found here are abundant, and resources can be scavenged throughout.
Crimson Forest
To your east, just beyond the Endless Tower (which we’ll reach soon), there lies a floating island with a crimson forest. Initially, this region will be free from hostility, but as you delve deeper, you’ll stumble upon three enigmatic statues. Interacting with each statue will gradually shroud the area in darkness and intensify the strength of the foes inhabiting it. Once all three are activated, venture towards the peculiar energy vortex for a distinct battle against a formidable boss.
Sky Island
To the east of the massive snow-covered central continent lies a tiny floating island, known as the Sky Island. This island is unique, as it houses one of the chromatic boss creatures among its limited space.
Sunless Cliffs
In this region, you’ll find one of the game’s scariest adversaries. It’s the strongest type of Mime, and unlike others, it’s… bald. (Or, In this zone dwells one of the game’s fearsome foes – the most potent Mime, who is characterized by being… hairless.)
The Chosen Path
Above a tiny river, north of the large snow-covered island, you’ll discover The Chosen Path suspended aloft. This distinctive location offers a series of five paintings. Approach each one, and you’ll be asked to select one of your companions for a duel with a Nevron. Successfully complete all five duels using distinct party members, and you’ll gain access to the door at the summit.
Painting Workshop
Here are various instances spread across the globe, yet only the one hovering over the sea in the northeastern part of the map necessitates air travel. These locations involve navigating uneven ground and interacting with a muraled boy, as well as amassing numerous items that will instigate a hidden battle against a formidable foe.
The Canvas
Near the Monolith’s southern region, where things are particularly disorganized, there’s a big canvas displaying the game’s key family. You can pick it up here and place it back inside an empty frame in the Mansion, which will unlock access to its last chamber.
Endless Tower
This structure is aptly named as it’s a tall tower filled with consecutive tough fights. Contrary to its name, these fights aren’t endless; instead, they span across 12 levels in the tower, with each level hosting three separate battles.
Flying Manor
Located in the middle of a ring of levitating rocks, suspended above the southwestern part of a large snow-covered island, lies the challenging Flying Manor within the game. To access this manor, you’ll have to overcome four stronger iterations of earlier bosses that serve as keys to open its door. Within, you’ll encounter the painted variant of Clea, who will test your skills in one of the game’s most demanding battles.
Renoir’s Drafts
As a devoted player, I discovered that venturing into Renoir’s Drafts, the game’s most advanced domain, can only be achieved once you’ve progressed through Esquie’s relationship quest and gained the unique ability to explore underwater realms. This enigmatic area teems with peculiar, challenging painted adversaries, but it serves as a mere passageway to the game’s ultimate hidden secret location.
The Abyss
Towards the conclusion of Renoir’s Draft, you’ll encounter a gateway leading to The Abyss – a place where the most challenging boss battle in the whole game resides: Simon.
