It’s fortunate that our characters’ birthdays aren’t celebrated in Crusader Kings 3, as it would provide yet another means to kill them off – however, since the game itself cannot do this, we can joyfully celebrate and acknowledge the fifth anniversary of everyone’s beloved medieval grand strategy RPG.
To celebrate the event, Paradox Interactive, both developer and publisher, has shared some interesting figures about the game since 2024. During this period, Crusader Kings III attracted over 1.7 million new players across all platforms, demonstrating its sustained popularity. In addition, players collectively invested over 110 million hours into the game and created more than 29.3 million custom characters, indicating a strong preference for personalized protagonists, even when their downfall is probable and often violent.
It’s no surprise that players of Paradox games like Crusader Kings 3 favor The Stewardship (Wealth) Lifestyle the most, with Martial (Strategy) coming in second and Martial (Chivalry), often seen as romantic, rounding out the top three. The frequent choice of Chivalry can be attributed to its attractive bonus, making courtship significantly easier for players.
Despite repeated efforts over 6 years from 2024, CK3 was turned down approximately 4.9 million times during romantic pursuits within the game. Although it’s uncertain how many successful seductions occurred, we can surmise a large number of attempts were made. The high frequency of extramarital affairs may be the explanation for why there were only 12,553 divorces in this period – or perhaps the multiple options for obtaining a divorce similar to those available to Henry VIII are the reason.
In a heartwarming turn of events, over 3.6 million cats and dogs were lovingly taken home by players as a way to ease their stress levels, making for a compassionate community. Quite relatable, isn’t it?

It’s hard to believe it’s already been five years since we released Crusader Kings 3, which happened during the peak of the Covid pandemic,” said Alexander Oltner, game director. “This meant that the final stages of development were especially challenging for our team. However, the game’s success is a testament to the dedication of my coworkers and the enthusiasm of the larger gaming community.
This year, towards its end, the game CK3 is anticipated to receive the All Under Heaven DLC expansion. This addition will extend the game’s reach as far as the Pacific Ocean, featuring unique mechanics for nations such as China and Japan. Additionally, it includes new features like natural disasters. Since its launch, CK3 has been purchased over four million times.
