Cillian Murphy Reveals Why Creating Peaky Blinders Movie’s Story Took A Long Time After ‘Clever Ending’ Of The Series

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for quality entertainment and a deep respect for the craft of acting, I must say that Cillian Murphy‘s upcoming projects have me absolutely thrilled! His recent interview with Entertainment Weekly not only shed light on the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders film but also gave us a glimpse into his thoughtful approach to storytelling.

In a detailed conversation, Cillian Murphy met with Entertainment Weekly for a chat during his promotional efforts for the upcoming movie “Small Things Like These.” Throughout their discussion, the Academy Award recipient was queried about providing hints for the eagerly awaited “Peaky Blinders” movie.

Regardless of the hubbub surrounding the Oppenheimer promotions, the question I’m asked most frequently is: ‘Will there be more Peaky Blinders? Are we expecting a Peaky Blinders film?’ He chuckled as he said this.

The actor admitted that he always knew there were more stories to tell from the Peaky Blinder universe but was skeptical to touch the elegant series finale. “I thought it was an excellent kind of ambiguous but clever ending,” he added.

Given the complexity of creating an engaging and cinematic narrative for the movie rather than a series of episodes, it required considerable effort from our team to devise the storyline. However, I believe we have succeeded in this task, as we now have an exceptional screenplay, which has left me quite thrilled and eager to move forward with its production. Murphy hinted at this with a playful tease.

During the pandemic, the last seasons of a popular Netflix series were shot. When questioned about how the circumstances might have influenced his thoughts about the show, the actor from Dunkirk admitted that he does not allow external factors to sway his choices and instead selects projects that resonate with him personally.

He emphasized that a film shouldn’t be created merely for the sake of creating it; he aims to produce a film that pleases fans of ‘Peaky Blinders’. For the unnamed Peaky Blinders movie, he wants to cater to the fans while also ensuring it appeals to a wider audience. He stated, “You wouldn’t want to create something mediocre and have people say, ‘Oh, just watch the TV series.’ It needs to be better. I believe this one will surpass expectations.

Beyond just acting, Murphy is also involved as a producer for the film Small Things Like These, produced by his new company Big Things Films. This movie centers around his character, Bill Furlong, who is a father of five and a diligent coal merchant in New Ross. He’s been unspoken observer to abuse against women at work, but one day chooses to intervene and tries to save a young girl from a similar fate.

Small Things Like These is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
