The Christopher Nolan movie based on Homer’s epic poem “The Odyssey,” featuring Matt Damon, is now completed and eagerly awaited by fans, who can’t wait to see it in theaters.
The art director, Samantha Englender, shared on her Instagram stories that the cast had finished filming, as she posted a set photo with the caption, “It’s a wrap.
The movie, co-produced by Nolan together with his wife, Emma Thompson, was filmed using 70mm IMAX cameras, under the Syncopy production label.
What is The Odyssey about, and when will it release?
The upcoming film, titled “The Odyssey,” is inspired by Homer’s famous epic poem of the same name. In this movie, Matt Damon portrays King Odysseus, the monarch of Ithaca. The narrative centers around Odysseus as he embarks on a voyage back to his homeland following the Trojan War.
In the film, Damon is accompanied by an impressive ensemble that includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Rafi Gavron, and Shiloh Fernandez.
Earlier, the unofficial trailer for the movie surfaced online, offering fans a sneak peek of Holland portraying Odysseus’ son, Telemachus. While it showed Bernthal’s appearance from the film, the specifics about his character remain undisclosed.
The filming locations for the movie included various destinations like Italy, Morocco, Malta, Greece, Iceland, Scotland, Western Sahara, and Los Angeles where the cast shot their scenes.
According to news reports, the movie directed by Christopher Nolan has been made at an estimated cost of $250 million, making it one of his most expensive films to produce.
The Odyssey is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
