Filmmaker Christopher Nolan is transforming Homer’s “The Odyssey” into an exciting new film that blends fantasy and action genres. In this production, Matt Damon will portray Odysseus, the protagonist who embarks on a perilous voyage back home following the Trojan War, encountering mythical creatures, divine entities, and legendary trials along the way.
For director Christopher Nolan, this upcoming production boasts a hefty price tag of $250 million, making it his costliest film so far. An impressive ensemble of talents like Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron have joined forces for this project. The global shoot is underway in Morocco, Italy, Greece, and the United Kingdom, with a scheduled premiere on July 17, 2026.
Little information has been disclosed about the upcoming movie thus far, considering Christopher Nolan’s enigmatic approach to film production. However, we can trust insiders to deliver the latest gossip and potential set secrets.
According to the recent whispers, we’re hearing it from @NolanAnalyst – a reliable source known for dishing out info about Nolan’s film projects.
Based on accounts from crew members involved in the production in Greece and Italy, Christopher Nolan expanded the character of Telemachus significantly beyond his role in the original epic poem.
In “The Odyssey”, Telemachus is the offspring of Odysseus. For much of the narrative, he embarks on a quest to discover any information about his long-absent father. He journeys to encounter various rulers and combatants, hoping they might have news of his father’s survival. Meanwhile, Penelope, his mother, stays at home, managing unwanted suitors who assume Odysseus is deceased. Eventually, Telemachus aids his father in battling these suitors once Odysseus makes his return.
In Nolan’s adaptation, it appears that the character of Telemachus could take on a larger, more dynamic role within the narrative. Tom Holland’s character seems to be significant in the movie, and there’s speculation that he may portray Telemachus. If this is accurate, his character would probably have increased action sequences and growth compared to the original poem.
From the accounts of movie extras in Greece and Italy, it appears that Christopher Nolan has significantly increased the part of Telemachus in his adaptation of ‘THE ODYSSEY’, departing from Homer’s original epic poem. It’s worth noting that Tom Holland is a central figure in this film.

At present, the team is actively working in Sicily, Italy, which encompasses the Aeolian Islands and Favignana – a location referenced in the original poem. Additionally, they are collaborating with a local Greek production company named Faliro House Productions for filming in Greece. Furthermore, certain scenes will be captured in the United Kingdom as well.
Universal Pictures is set to premiere the movie on July 17, 2026, in theaters. Additionally, it will be available for viewing in IMAX cinemas as well.
