Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Reveals Divided Family in New Images

Christopher Nolan’s next film is shaping up to be a full-scale epic.

I’m so excited about the new Odyssey! Along with that amazing 6-minute preview, we’re finally getting a good look at the main family. Matt Damon is perfect as Odysseus, and Anne Hathaway looks incredible as Penelope. It’s cool to see Tom Holland as Telemachus and Robert Pattinson playing Antinous too – what a cast!

A Family Torn Apart

Damon plays Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and the story follows his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War.

Hathaway portrays Penelope, who is left in charge of Ithaca while her husband is away. She must deal with numerous men who want to marry her and take over the kingdom.

Holland tells the story of Telemachus, who comes of age without a father and embarks on a journey to discover the truth about what happened to him.

The pictures emphasize the emotional distance between the three characters, showing that the film isn’t simply about grand conflicts, but also about broken relationships, what people leave behind, and the pressures within families.

A Stacked Cast and Mythic Scope

The movie stars Damon, Hathaway, and Holland, and also features a strong supporting cast including Robert Pattinson, Himesh Patel, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and others.

Universal Studios calls The Odyssey a sweeping, action-packed epic filmed around the globe with cutting-edge IMAX cameras.

Nolan both wrote and directed the film, producing alongside Emma Thomas.

Release Date

The Odyssey opens in theaters on July 17, 2026.

Odysseus’s voyage home is full of challenges. He encounters famous monsters and dangers, like the one-eyed giant Polyphemus, the enchanting but deadly Sirens who shipwreck sailors with their songs, and the powerful witch Circe, who transforms his men into pigs.
