Christopher Judge, known for playing a key villain in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, has said he didn’t enjoy his experience working with the director. Although it wasn’t a large role, he felt stifled by the lack of creative freedom during filming.
Judge described working with Christopher Nolan on The Dark Knight Rises, calling him a brilliant director, but noted Nolan doesn’t offer much direct guidance to actors, which can be unsettling. He explained that this lack of feedback can be surprising for performers who are used to more communication and support on set.
The judge explained the usual relationship between film directors and actors, noting that directors typically offer frequent praise – things like telling actors they’re doing a great job every few minutes. He pointed out that Christopher Nolan doesn’t follow this pattern, opting for a different approach.
Christopher Judge is a hugely popular figure in science fiction and gaming, best known for his decade-long role as Teal’c on Stargate SG-1. More recently, he’s gained even wider recognition as the voice and performer behind Kratos in the God of War video games. His powerful performance as the “Ghost of Sparta” won him a BAFTA Award and has become the defining version of the character for many fans today.
As of early 2026, Christopher Judge is still a well-known name in the gaming world, especially with the popular God of War series now being adapted into a live-action show. Many fans hoped Judge would play the character Kratos in the new Amazon Prime Video series, but it was announced in January 2026 that Ryan Hurst had been cast. Judge publicly supported the decision on social media, congratulating Hurst and saying he was confident Hurst would do a great job.
I’m so excited to see Judge is going to be really active at conventions next year! He’s already confirmed for Fan Expo New Orleans and C2E2 in Chicago in early 2026, and then he’s heading all the way to Abu Dhabi for the Middle East Film & Comic Con in April, which is amazing! He’s going to be talking about his incredible career, and I can’t wait to hear all about it. Also, he recently mentioned that if they ever make more God of War games, he’d love to see them dive into Egyptian or Mayan mythology – that would be incredible!
It’s really interesting how Christopher Judge can acknowledge how vulnerable actors are, especially considering how strong and authoritative he appears on screen.
