Christina Hodson Writing DCU Batman Movie ‘The Brave and the Bold’ for James Gunn

According to reports first shared by Jeff Sneider and now confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Christina Hodson will be writing The Brave and the Bold, the upcoming Batman movie that’s part of the new DC Universe being created by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The project is supposed to feature the debut of Damian Wayne—Batman’s long-lost son—as Robin.

DC Studios didn’t confirm or deny Hodson’s work on the project (and Gunn hasn’t commented on Threads yet), but several sources at The Hollywood Reporter say she’s been writing the script since at least last autumn.

There’s speculation the screenplay has been revised by several writers. Ultimately, the future of James Gunn’s DC Universe and the Brave and the Bold project likely hinges on the decisions of Warner Bros. Discovery’s new owners, whether that’s Netflix or Paramount Skydance.

Not Pattinson’s Batman

The Brave and the Bold is a new DC project and isn’t connected to Matt Reeves’ The Batman movies with Robert Pattinson.

According to sources at The Hollywood Reporter, DC is giving its alternate universe, known as “DC Elseworlds,” plenty of time to develop, and isn’t planning to release another Batman movie anytime soon.

According to reports, Gunn’s team is focused on making sure The Brave and the Bold feels and looks different from the more serious and shadowy style of Reeves’ films.

Muschietti Still Attached—For Now

Andy Muschietti, known for directing The Flash and It, is still planned to direct The Brave and the Bold. However, his ability to do so might depend on his availability and schedule.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the popularity of HBO’s Welcome to Derry, a prequel to It, could lead to more projects for director Andy Muschietti. A second season of Welcome to Derry is currently being planned.

Hodson’s Batman Track Record

Hodson has written for the Gotham universe before. She previously wrote the screenplay for the 2020 film Birds of Prey, which was ultimately never produced.

The Hollywood Reporter corroborates our previous report about how The Flash movie actually ends. They also reveal that screenwriter John Hodson developed a script for a Batman Beyond film with Michael Keaton, which DC seriously considered before deciding not to move forward with it.

Let’s talk about The Flash movie. I know, I know – it’s the one with, well, a lot of Batmen. James Gunn actually called it the best superhero film he’d ever seen, and Hodslon was one of the writers behind it all.

Currently, James Gunn’s planned Batman for the DC Universe isn’t expected to appear until 2028, and even that depends on whether the project gets the go-ahead.
