Amazon Studios, under the MGM banner, has changed the release date for the sci-fi thriller Mercy, starring Chris Pratt and directed by Timur Bekmambetov. Originally slated to debut on August 15, 2025, the film is now scheduled to open globally on January 23, 2026. This adjustment allows Universal’s action sequel Nobody 2 to claim the earlier date without any rivalry.
In an imminent timeframe characterized by escalating violence, Pratt assumes the role of a tenacious detective. The narrative unfolds with his character being falsely implicated in a grave offense, compelling him to wage a battle for exoneration and clear his name.
The ensemble features Rebecca Ferguson, Kali Reis, Annabelle Wallis, Kenneth Choi, Chris Sullivan, Kylie Rogers, Jeff Pierre, and Rafi Gavron. This diverse group has previously worked on projects such as Dune, Mission Impossible, and True Detective: Night Country.
The upcoming January release of “Mercy” places it in a more tranquil timeframe, debuting one week after major Martin Luther King Jr. weekend releases such as Warner Bros’ “Weapons”, Sony’s “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple”, and an unnamed Disney film. This timing might allow the movie to reign supreme at the box office with minimal intense competition.
The movie was penned by Marco van Belle and brought to life by Charles Roven, who recently earned an Oscar for “Oppenheimer.” Roven is collaborating on production with Robert Amidon, Timur Bekmambetov, and Majd Nassif from Atlas Entertainment.
Viewers might recall that Chris Pratt recently achieved success on Amazon Prime Video’s “The Tomorrow War,” a film that garnered significant attention, ranking among the platform’s top-watched movies during the global pandemic.
According to some accounts, it appears that Pratt sustained an ankle injury during filming of Mercy. However, more specifics about the injury haven’t been disclosed yet. This upcoming project signifies another creative partnership between the actor and Bekmambetov, generating anticipation among viewers who are eagerly awaiting a suspenseful, futuristic adventure.
