Chris Miller Debunks Rumors of SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE Starting from Scratch

As a seasoned gamer of the cinema world, I’ve seen my fair share of twists and turns in the industry. The rollercoaster ride that is the Spider-Verse saga has been quite the thrill so far! Initially, the delay news was like a game-over screen, but now hearing from Chris Miller himself that they’re not starting over gives me a new lease on life!

In spring 2023, the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was followed by an announcement for its sequel, Beyond the Spider-Verse, to be released the following year. However, plans changed when Sony postponed Beyond the Spider-Verse from its 2024 slot and indefinitely delayed it. Speculation arose that Sony had almost entirely reworked the third film, pushing its release to 2027 – a wait of four years since the first movie was released with an unresolved cliffhanger ending. However, two creative team members have since denied these rumors.

Nothing has been scrapped. The reels are coming along nicely.

While I’m generally not one to comment on such matters, it’s worth considering that some information found online may not always be completely reliable.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Miller, co-writer and producer of Spider-Verse, shared on social media that “nothing has been discarded” and that the scenes for the upcoming movie are progressing well. Meanwhile, composer Daniel Pemberton hinted, while avoiding direct commentary, that there might be instances where information found online may not always be accurate. Both creators are conveying to fans that they are not starting anew with the third installment of this trilogy.

It’s accurate to say that as of now, the release date for “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” has not been set according to any known schedule. Despite speculation that they might be starting anew, there are evidently modifications taking place. The success of “Across the Spider-Verse” at the box office surpassing “Into the Spider-Verse”, along with similar critical acclaim, has increased the anticipation to wrap up the story well. Therefore, we may not have to wait until 2027 for the continuation of Miles Morales’ tale, but it could still be in 2026. It seems rather unlikely that both Sony Animation’s “Spider-Verse” saga and Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga would conclude within a short span of time. We can only hope for some definitive information from Sony Animation soon regarding the exact theater release date for “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”.
