As a dedicated follower of music and a fan of both Coldplay and Back to the Future, I must say that Chris Martin’s experience performing with Michael J. Fox at Glastonbury was nothing short of surreal. Growing up, I always dreamt of seeing Marty McFly play live, and here I am, witnessing one of my idols sharing a stage with him!
Chris Martin, lead vocalist of Coldplay, shared an account of playing alongside Michael J. Fox at Glastonbury. On a recent episode of The Jimmy Fallon Show, Martin confessed that sharing the stage with such a renowned artist was an incredibly trippy experience for him.
Since 1991, Fox, battling with Parkinson’s disease, made an appearance using a wheelchair during the performance. This Canadian artist collaborated with Martin, playing the guitar together as they performed Human Kind and Fix You.
During an interview with Jimmy Fallon, the band member shared that the occasion held a unique significance for him. Martin expressed on the talk show, “I believe there are particular experiences etched into people our age, inspiring us to pursue this career. One of those experiences for me was Michael in ‘Back to the Future’.
He also reminisced, “It’s incredibly surreal for me to play alongside him, as it’s like being a 7-year-old in heaven. It truly feels that way. Not only is he an inspirational individual, but he was also Marty McFly.
Martin and Fox had collaborated before, not for the first time, even at Glastonbury concerts. In fact, Martin often introduced the Canadian activist during his Coldplay shows and charity events. Their first joint performance was in 2013, taking place at a gala hosted by Fox’s foundation.
Martin shared that their first collaboration took place during a charity event, where he requested they perform two songs from ‘Back to the Future’. He added that the artist was incredibly kind and, in the midst of ‘Earth Angel’, began gazing at his hand as if it were vanishing.
The band member added, “Perhaps today’s audience may not recall it, but the vanishing hand was truly significant.
Speaking of Martin’s appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show, it happened nearly a month following his duet performance with Ed Sheeran at the 2024 Golden Citizen Festival in New York. What’s astonishing to him is that he’s still finding it hard to grasp that his childhood dream has finally materialized.
