Coldplay has truly exploded onto the global music scene over the past few years! Consisting of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion, this popular Rock band is about to unveil their tenth studio album. Yet, in a chat with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, frontman Chris Martin revealed that the group’s upcoming twelfth album will mark their farewell.
He declared that their plan is to produce just 12 full-fledged albums and he stands by this decision. He further explained that “less is more,” and in the eyes of some critics, even fewer albums might be preferred. When asked about the reasoning behind this self-imposed limit, Martin stated it’s crucial to establish boundaries because everything eventually reaches its end.
He made his point by citing Harry Potter movies (just seven in the series) and The Beatles albums (only 12-and-a-half from the iconic group). He suggested that this same principle can be applied to figures like Bob Marley and others. By establishing a limit, they could concentrate on producing top-notch work. “Quality control is incredibly high at the moment,” he said, “making it nearly impossible for a song to make the cut, which is fantastic.
In his continued explanation, it was disclosed that the band prioritizes refining their output over expanding their musical legacy. One factor contributing to Coldplay’s absence from recording another two albums is Martin’s statement about the extensive coordination required to create a masterpiece, which he finds exhausting. He further explained, “I want these individuals to have some of their own time for personal growth.
In simpler terms, the lead singer of My Universe stated that he wouldn’t ask his fellow band members to produce something “better” even if they were 60 years old. Although the disbanding of Coldplay might be surprising, Martin assures us that his musical journey will persist. He added, “There’s something special about being in Coldplay, but my love for music will never end.
The vocalist didn’t make this decision impulsively; rather, subtle hints and instinctual nudges over the past four to five years suggested he needed to slow down. In the end, he chose to rely on his intuition, just as he trusted a song during its development.
Coldplay’s 10th album, Moon Music, will be released on October 4.
