Chris Hemsworth shared some exciting updates about his future as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While appearing on the Smartless Podcast, he mentioned he plans to reprise the role several more times after Avengers: Doomsday, suggesting Marvel Studios has further plans for the character. He described the situation as “wild.”
Hemsworth mentioned discussions with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who believes audiences now anticipate surprising developments for the character. Hemsworth also shared that they have some exciting and potentially groundbreaking ideas for future projects, aiming to do something truly different.
I’ve noticed a big shift in Thor’s movies lately. For a long time, they were really focused on jokes. Thor: Ragnarok was awesome because it kind of reinvented him, making him a fun, more lighthearted hero. But Love and Thunder really leaned into the comedy, and honestly, it felt like it went a little too far for me. Chris Hemsworth even said he helped push things in that direction, making Thor a bit too silly.
The new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, features a more somber and serious portrayal of Thor. The preview suggests a more realistic and intense version of the character, and Chris Hemsworth confirmed this during an appearance on The View. He explained, “You get a sense of it in the teaser. It’s a different feel than Love and Thunder.”
Hemsworth also talked about how much he’s enjoyed evolving Thor throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He explained, “I was able to shift the character’s personality and approach with each new movie, and while some people might not like that, it was creatively fulfilling for me.”
In Avengers: Doomsday, Thor seems to be struggling with a lot more emotional weight than usual. Chris Hemsworth hinted at this, saying the trailer shows Thor seeking help from his father and feeling immense pressure – even to the point of being told to stop talking about it. The movie appears to center around Thor’s efforts to protect his daughter as the Multiverse faces significant dangers, which greatly increases the challenges for the character.
After the more comedic approach of Love and Thunder, some viewers might appreciate this more intense and thoughtful portrayal of Thor. Thor is at his best when he combines strength, vulnerability, and wit. If the Russo brothers direct a future film, Thor has the potential to become a complex hero, shaped by his history and new duties.
