The challenge I faced when taking on this role was to emulate the greatness of Peter Cullen without mimicking him. It was a relief and joy to infuse more humor into the character.

Initially, the character showcased an unexpected playfulness and humor. However, towards the closing scenes of the movie, as he transformed into Optimus, he subtly adapted his delivery and tone to echo what we’re familiar with from Peter’s portrayal. It was quite enjoyable!

Although they differ in many ways, there seems to be a commonality between them: their hearts share a similar sentiment, correct? Initially, I expected to utter the famous lines like ‘I am Megatron’ or ‘Rise up, Decepticons,’ but what truly captivated me was delving into his origins. I found it intriguing to hear the humor in his voice, the fear, and even Megatron being afraid – something unexpected. Hearing him laugh and have a partner-in-crime, learning that he admired other leaders, all of this appeals to me greatly.

When bringing these animated characters to life, I often ponder if you’ll sense their heart at the end of the day. Can you truly comprehend their character, discern their essence through my performance? It’s the same question I asked myself when voicing Megatron.
