Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films based on J.K. Rowling’s books, is expressing his thoughts about HBO’s upcoming TV adaptation of the magical tale. Additionally, he has commented on the speculation surrounding Cillian Murphy potentially playing Lord Voldemort.
At the Los Angeles debut of Nosferatu, Columbus expressed to People magazine that the upcoming series offers an opportunity for him to delve into topics he couldn’t fully express in his previous creations.
He shared with the media, “I find it an amazing concept due to the limitations involved in movie-making. Our first film ran for two hours and 40 minutes, while the sequel wasn’t far behind in length.
As a devoted admirer reflecting back on my journey directing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), I’ve come to understand the challenge of squeezing J.K. Rowling’s extensive novels into cinematic tales. Yet, I wholeheartedly welcomed the series format, as it allowed us to explore the intricate details and nuances that are so vital to these beloved books, giving fans a truly immersive experience.
The director explained that by producing multiple TV episodes for each book, creators could incorporate details and moments that couldn’t fit into the movies because of time limitations.
Having several episodes per book allows for a lot more content, which I find amazing. It gives us a chance to include everything from the series and showcase scenes that simply couldn’t fit into the movies.” – Columbus expressed.
Although the HBO series casting process is not yet complete, enthusiasts have started discussing potential choices online. One widely-discussed suggestion is to cast Cillian Murphy in the role of Lord Voldemort, a well-known antagonist who was originally played by Ralph Fiennes. Columbus, a fan of Murphy’s talent, supports this idea and describes the actor as exceptional.
He expressed enthusiasm by saying, “It’d be terrific if Cillian were involved; he’s an exceptional actor I admire greatly.
There’s a lot of excitement building around the upcoming Harry Potter series, as fans eagerly await updates from the set. Right now, you can watch all eight of the original movies streaming online.
