Cher Reveals Why She Can’t Serve On A Jury; Says The ‘Judge Kicked Me Out After 10 Minutes’

It seems like Cher and jury duty would be an unlikely pairing, more so if they were to encounter each other in the depths of hell! On Tuesday, January 7, the esteemed Grammy recipient graced Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she began brainstorming concepts for the second segment of her memoir. The initial installment, entitled Cher: The Memoir, Part One, hit bookshelves in November and swiftly climbed to the top of the New York Times Bestseller list.

During a wide-ranging conversation, the show’s host inquired about the last time Cher, famous for Believe, had driven a vehicle. Hinting at her recent car purchase, Cher mentioned an interesting detail: she doesn’t have a surname listed on her driver’s license.

After verifying that the ID simply listed her name as Cher, she remembered visiting the court to obtain permission, or whatever it’s called, to establish that the public could recognize her by this name, which she acknowledged was not straightforward.

Kimmel posed another inquiry to find out if she had served on a jury before, and her prompt response was “I’ve tried, but they won’t let me.” When the host inquired about the reason behind this, it wasn’t because of fame, but rather that she was deemed too captivating or distracting. (Cher specifically)

To get into character as a lawyer, the multi-talented performer visited a courtroom to observe a genuine trial up close. However, it turned out that the people involved in the case were not pleased with her presence, leading to an early dismissal. “I was asked to leave after just 10 minutes,” she confessed, explaining that the judge was concerned she might interrupt the proceedings.
