Cher Opens Up About the Time Music Producer Phil Spector Pulled a Gun on Her

I can’t help but admire Cher’s spunk and courage! Working alongside Phil Spector, a man notorious for his threatening behavior towards women, must have been challenging. But when he pulled out a gun during one of their meetings, Cher didn’t back down. She stood her ground, reminding him of who she was and putting an end to such intimidation tactics. It’s moments like these that make me believe that sometimes, all it takes is a good dose of sassiness to deal with difficult people!

Legendary music producer Phil Spector has consistently been associated with a menacing demeanor towards women. Recently, a fresh claim has surfaced from Cher, dating back to before his conviction for murdering an actress.

In her newly published autobiography, titled after herself, the singer who brought us “If I Could Turn Back Time” shares accounts of her past experiences collaborating with Spector, including a moment when he made a threatening gesture towards her.

For the uninitiated, Cher collaborated with Phil Spector frequently as a backing vocalist across numerous albums he produced. Following multiple joint ventures, the singer of “I Got You Babe” and Spector eventually went their separate ways, providing a substantial boost to Cher’s individual music career.

After wrapping up her Dark Lady album in 1974, Cher was persuaded by her boyfriend at the time, David Geffen, to collaborate once more with Phil Spector.

During her collaboration with Phil Spector, Cher sometimes took on the role of backing vocalist for John Lennon’s Rock ‘n’ Roll album alongside Harry Nilsson.

On a particular night, Spector requested that Cher and Nilsson record a preliminary version (a guide vocal) of the Martha and the Vandellas song “A Love Like Yours”.

In the meantime, Spector unlawfully put out the identical track in Europe. This action not only breached their recording contracts, but also prompted Cher to go see Spector to discuss the matter directly.

As told in Cher’s autobiography, upon arriving at Phil Spector’s location, she warmly embraced him and assertively expressed her opinion that he shouldn’t publish the song as it was then.

Harry’s associated with one brand, I’m linked to another, yet you release it under your own name. What was the idea behind that?” she asked.

Spector reacted poorly, growing restless, and he tried to assert his intelligence as a means to overawe Cher.

Cher stated that he had the freedom to act as he pleased, mentioning that if his record companies disapproved, they might take legal action against him.

The producer then picked up a revolver, twirling it around his fingers.

In response, Cher said, “You can’t pull that s*** on me, you a**hole. This is me, Cher.”

As a dedicated admirer, I vividly recalled our past – you, Sir Spector, meeting me when I was just sixteen. With unwavering resolve, I urged you to lay down the firearm and vowed that such an audacious move concerning my music would never occur again in the future.
