Charmed Star Rose McGowan Shares Regrets Over Lost Time with Late Actress Shannen Doherty: ‘Wish I Could Have Gotten To Know Her Sooner’

As a dedicated follower and admirer of the captivating world of entertainment, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of empathy for Rose McGowan as she shares her heartfelt reflections on her friendship with Shannen Doherty. The bittersweet tales of their complex bond, tinged with regret and nostalgia, resonate deeply within me, echoing the poignant reminders that life is too short and precious to squander opportunities for connection.

In a candid discussion, Rose McGowan shared about the one thing she most regretted concerning her intricate bond with her Charmed colleague and the deceased actress, Shannen Doherty.

Approximately a month following Doherty’s passing, McGowan shared her reflections on their friendship during an episode of the podcast “Let’s Be Clear.” She discussed what she dearly missed about Doherty and expressed a deep regret that she hadn’t gotten to know him better earlier in their lives.

She placed great value on their private moments together, even though she regrets not recording a podcast episode with her. She explicitly expressed her appreciation for their long-lasting relationship, which endured despite negative public perceptions. In her own words, “I do regret not doing the podcast with her, but I also think that since so much of our relationship was played out in public, having that private time between us was truly unique and special.”

One thing McGowan deeply regrets is not having spent more time with Doherty before cancer took her life in July at the age of 53, following nearly ten years of fighting it. McGowan expressed, “I wished I could have met her earlier,” she confessed. “I’m not sure how that could have been possible, but I truly wish we had the chance. We shared a disdain for corporate feminism.”

They were both critical of “corporate feminism” and opposed to superficial activism. She described it as “empty phrases, phony activists, and individuals who merely act for attention and recognition, without genuinely investing effort or enduring the hardship required for such work.”

Over time, I found myself drawn to and inspired by Doherty after our initial challenges, particularly when we both joined Charmed as Paige Matthews and Leo Wyatt in 2001. What resonated with me the most was his passion for directing rather than acting, and his candidness about the hurdles we encountered in the entertainment industry. Moreover, I admired his zest for life and rebellious spirit – qualities that felt incredibly relatable to me.

Approximately 25 years after their last encounter, Rose vividly recollected spending some private moments with her late co-star before she passed away. She particularly cherished their last interaction, which happened about a month prior to the actress’s demise. During this unique occasion, they were alone for the first time in over two decades. As she put it, “A month before she died, we finally had a chance to be together alone – just me and her – something that hadn’t happened in 25 years. It was an incredible experience, and we didn’t want the evening to end. It was heartwarming and, well, I guess you could say it was charming.”

Shannen Doherty’s previous colleagues from Charmed are set to honor her memory at the 90s Con in Florida. Holly Marie Combs, Drew Fuller, and Brian Krause will also be present for a special episode recording of their podcast House of Halliwell live during the event.
