CHARLIE’S ANGELS Revival in the Works with THE PROPOSAL Screenwriter

The story of Charlie’s Angels has been told many times over the years. It began as a TV show in 1976, with Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith playing the original detectives. Later, the story continued with movies starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu. Now, Sony is bringing the franchise back to the big screen with a new film written by Pete Chiarelli, known for his work on The Proposal and Crazy Rich Asians.

News surfaced a few days ago about a potential revival, and while nothing is official yet, many believe Drew Barrymore and her production company, Flower Films, will be involved. Flower Films previously produced the Charlie’s Angels movies from 2000 and 2003. The reboot, which is being developed by Chiarelli, is currently in its early stages.

The original Charlie’s Angels television series aired from 1976 to 1981. It became a cultural sensation, centering around three women who worked as private detectives, solving cases and capturing criminals all over the globe while communicating with their boss, Charlie, through an unseen voice. The show proved incredibly popular, leading to three feature films and a short-lived reboot in 2011 that lasted just seven episodes.

Who will be in the new Charlie’s Angels reboot?

Since the movie is in the very early stages of production, it’s currently unclear who will play the famous angels. There’s also a chance that some original cast members might return. When asked about a potential revival in 2024, Liu said he doesn’t usually find out about projects until they’re confirmed, and he’s open to the idea, but doesn’t expect anything to happen – or not happen – and understands things can change quickly.
