Charlie’s Angels Make a Comeback as a New Movie Begins Development

Sony is starting to plan a new version of Charlie’s Angels. Although the studio hasn’t officially announced anything yet, sources say a well-known actor from previous films might be involved.

Drew Barrymore and her production company, Flower Films, are reportedly working to bring back the popular franchise. This is a full-circle moment, as her company previously created the fast-paced, successful movies that were popular in the early 2000s.

Sony hasn’t commented on the project yet. It first became popular as a TV show on ABC, where it aired for five seasons beginning in 1976.

The show launched Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith to stardom. It also established Aaron Spelling as one of television’s most successful producers.

The show centered around a team of skilled female detectives who worked for the Townsend Agency. They received their assignments from the enigmatic Charlie Townsend, and Bosley served as the go-between, relaying instructions and support.

The series became even more popular in 2000 with a movie released by Columbia Pictures, directed by McG. Starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu, the film was a huge success around the world.

The movie originally made $264.1 million, which is about $493 million in today’s money. A fast-paced sequel, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, came out in 2003 and continued the franchise’s success.

Attempts to revive the series in later years had mixed results. A 2011 TV revival was short-lived, cancelled after just seven episodes.

Elizabeth Banks directed a 2019 film featuring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska. The movie reimagined the Townsend Agency as a large, worldwide intelligence organization with multiple teams operating in different countries.

Look, the 2019 movie just didn’t land with viewers, and it really bombed at the box office. But this new project? It feels like a total reboot for the series, and they’re still in the early stages of figuring it all out, which is exciting!

Pete Chiarelli, a producer turned screenwriter, is writing the script. He’s best known for his work on the popular Disney comedy, The Proposal.

Louis Chiarelli has worked on popular films like the thriller Now You See Me 2 and the blockbuster Crazy Rich Asians. He also helped write the story for GOAT, an upcoming animated movie from Sony Pictures Animation.

The new movie produced by Stephen Curry, the basketball star, is being released in theaters today. Although the actors haven’t been officially announced yet, the people working behind the scenes are beginning to be confirmed.

Drew Barrymore is busy! In addition to working on her various productions, she continues to host her popular daily talk show and is getting ready to turn 51. She also has a new show called ‘Influenced’ coming out soon, with a fantastic cast that includes Gwyneth Paltrow.

Elizabeth Banks is currently promoting her new series, “The Miniature Wife,” which will be available on Peacock this April. Kristen Stewart has also been working on exciting projects, most recently directing her first film, “The Chronology of Water.”
