Charlie Sheen recently told a story about something surprising that happened after he played a birthday prank on his former wife, Denise Richards.
On the KFC Radio podcast with Kevin Clancy, actor Charlie Sheen shared a story about jokingly writing a $1 million check to Richard Gere.
Charlie Sheen said he once jokingly wrote Denise a check for a million dollars as a birthday gift, but she didn’t see it as a joke. About a month later, she actually cashed it.
Honestly, Sheen couldn’t even remember if they were still married when she cashed the check, but he totally got why she did it. He actually said it almost hurt more knowing she felt she had to, but if he were in her shoes, he’d probably have done the exact same thing. It’s just…ouch, you know?
He playfully complained that Richards hadn’t warned him she was going to the bank. He jokingly pictured himself saying, “You sound like you’re driving somewhere,” and her replying, “Yeah, to the bank!”
Looking back on what happened, Sheen realized it helped him recognize how well off he was. He joked, “I’m thankful there was enough money in the account to cover the check! You’re doing alright for yourself if you can mistakenly send someone a million dollars.”
Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen were married from 2002 to 2006 and have two daughters together, Sami, 21, and Lola, 20. Richards recently shared a funny story on Instagram: she found an uncashed check from Sheen, dated December 11, 2011 – five years after their divorce – and wondered if it was still valid.
Their breakup was rough, and there was even a point where Richards had to get a restraining order against Sheen. Now, though, people are mostly talking about it as a funny story involving a surprisingly large amount of money being mistakenly sent to someone.
