Charlie Sheen has responded to his father, Martin Sheen, disagreeing with when Martin publicly criticized President Donald Trump.
The actor discussed the situation on Friday’s episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show.” He explained that while he wasn’t bothered by his father’s words themselves, he thought the timing was bad, as it occurred while a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas was being completed.
“He really messed up the timing on that,” Charlie said. “I told him so, but then I realized I needed to let it go… because sometimes you have to accept even the bad stuff, you know?”
Charlie told Martin he needed to think about the circumstances. He said, “I told Dad it was bad timing. He needed to understand the situation. Trump had just brokered a peace deal that everyone was celebrating, but Dad was on TV with Nicole Wallace. While he’s free to share his opinions, he could have waited until Wednesday to do so.”
Last October, Martin Sheen discussed Donald Trump on Nicolle Wallace’s podcast, “The Best People.” He strongly criticized Trump, dismissing him as insignificant and encouraging him to reconnect with his compassionate side. Sheen urged Trump to “speak from the heart” and be a better person, suggesting that was his true purpose instead of playing golf.
Charlie pointed out the difficulty of balancing what people truly think with when they choose to say it, particularly during major political events. While he supported his father’s freedom of speech, he felt the timing of the comments wasn’t ideal.
