Charlie Cox Slammed Ms. Marvel Tie-In Episode He Tried to Kill but Fans Loved

As a movie reviewer, I must confess that in the captivating reboot of Daredevil titled Born Again, Charlie Cox‘s portrayal of Matt Murdock didn’t quite hit the mark for me during the episode “With Interest.” In a candid conversation, Cox admitted his lack of enthusiasm for this particular bank heist installment, even going so far as to label it his least preferred among the series.

In the production process, Cox expressed his reservations, stating that the bank robbery storyline seemed too old-fashioned and implausible.

Ironically, he said the episode ended up being one of the most well-received internally at Disney.

Charlie Cox Calls Bank Heist Episode His Least Favorite

Cox filled in The Playlist:

The episode filmed at the bank [“With Interest”], which was part of our original footage, shot before the strike, wasn’t my favorite. I wasn’t fond of it and even resisted it as much as I could. I argued that a bank heist in 2025 seemed outdated, more like something from the 1970s, given today’s technology. Additionally, I felt the device used for the theft was not advanced enough. Despite my objections, I hear from many people that they adore this episode. It just goes to show you how subjective taste can be; everyone has their own preferences. And interestingly, internally, it is one of the highest-rated Disney shows they’ve produced.

It’s notable that Cox mentioned this specific episode was left unchanged during the remodeling of “Daredevil: Born Again.” In fact, Cox himself referred to the season as a “Frankenstein” creation, which could be why some viewers believe this particular episode is exceptional compared to the rest. This standalone episode doesn’t feature any of the questionable characters from the rest of the season, such as Heather, Kingpin, Vanessa, and so on.

Indeed, I concur with your sentiment. It seems this particular installment ranks as the second finest in the series, surpassed only by the previous one. Moreover, in an interview, Cox disclosed that they crafted a fresh pilot episode and finale, which provide additional clarity.

Season 2 will be an improvement

As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the highly-anticipated second season of “Daredevil: Born Again” is now in production! Matt Murdock himself, Charlie Cox, has reassured us that we can expect an even more compelling narrative as we delve deeper into the life of our favorite blind superhero. Can’t wait for its release!

I’d hate to overstate things, but I genuinely believe this latest episode represents some of the finest writing we’ve seen on our show so far. I know everyone always praises their favorite episodes, but I truly mean it when I say that Dario has done an outstanding job. One thing I particularly appreciate is his focus on developing characters that were previously underdeveloped in the series. As a result, this feels more like a collaborative ensemble effort than ever before.

Jon Bernthal is also developing a spinoff about The Punisher.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 is available to watch on Disney+.
