Charlie Cox Reveals the One Episode of DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN He Didn’t Like

Regarding the production of Daredevil: Born Again, there were numerous changes and revisions, even discarding several episodes and producing a fresh first installment following the Writer’s Guild Strikes. However, the series largely proved successful, with Charlie Cox and his co-stars seamlessly returning to their previous roles and delivering a show that matched the original. Nevertheless, there was an episode in Born Again that didn’t resonate with Charlie Cox, and he openly expressed his dislike for it. In an interview with The Playlist (via Variety), he revealed his strong aversion to episode 5, titled “With Interest.” This episode centered around Matt Murdock being trapped in a bank during a robbery. Notably, this was the only episode that remained unaltered from before Marvel underwent creative revisions for the show. Here’s what he had to say:

I’m not sure if it matters, but let me mention this: there was one scene in the series that remained unaltered throughout. It’s the bank episode, and we filmed it before the strike occurred. This scene was part of the initial script, and to be honest, I wasn’t fond of it. To my mind, it feels like a 1970s video game. With all the advanced technology today, I believe it would not work effectively. Moreover, I felt that the device utilized for the theft lacked sophistication.

Disney+ may have considered this particular episode less effective compared to episode 6 of the series, as they simultaneously released both on the same day. However, contrary to Charlie Cox’s expectations, it turned out to be more well-received than anticipated by many viewers. He commented, “I pushed hard for changes, but I hear from so many people that they love this episode. It just goes to show you don’t always know what will resonate. Everyone’s taste is different.” This episode focuses on Ms. Marvel’s father, which could have been a factor in Cox’s dissatisfaction as the previous Daredevil series seldom intertwined with other Marvel Cinematic Universe properties. Regardless, it’s clear that this one episode did not significantly impact the overall success of the season.
