Charles Hoskinson, the man behind Cardano, seems to have a rather bleak outlook on Ethereum‘s future. It’s almost like he’s been waiting for a chance to say, “I told you so!”
During an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on a regular Wednesday – because who doesn’t spend their Wednesday pondering the future of blockchain? – Hoskinson threw some serious shade at Ethereum, questioning whether the blockchain will last the next 10 to 15 years, despite boasting the largest total volume locked (TVL) of any network. It’s like being the tallest dwarf in the room, really. 🧑🦯
Hoskinson’s Critique – A Triple Punch
Charles, who has a rich history with Ethereum (co-founder, no biggie), didn’t hold back. He threw not one, not two, but three punches at Ethereum’s architectural flaws:
“They have the wrong accounting model, the wrong virtual machine, and the wrong consensus model.”
So, basically, it’s like Ethereum built a house on sand and forgot to check if the foundation was solid. He also criticized Ethereum’s “parasitic” Layer 2 solutions, claiming these networks aren’t solving the scalability issues but instead leeching away value from the main chain. 🍿
In Hoskinson’s opinion, Ethereum’s journey back on track would be like a really ugly divorce. The kind where everyone argues about the Wi-Fi password. He suspects that the governance and tokenomics will make things ugly, with Ethereum eventually collapsing into an overly dramatic “hostile breakup.” 🌪️
He even went so far as to liken Ethereum to the once mighty Myspace and Blackberry – early innovators that fell into the abyss of irrelevance. “It’s like watching a teenager with potential make questionable life choices,” he added. And guess what? He’s not holding his breath for Ethereum’s longevity.
“I don’t think Ethereum will survive more than 10 years to 15 years. The layer 2s will continue to suckle out all of the alpha. People will start fighting and it’ll get harder and harder for Vitalik to hold it together through sheer force of will.”
In Hoskinson’s crystal ball, users will start migrating to other platforms, and Ethereum will slowly fade into obscurity, overshadowed by Bitcoin’s decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Ethereum, meet your replacement: Bitcoin DeFi. 🔮
ETH’s Struggles in 2025 – A Crypto Soap Opera
2025 has been rough for ETH, and it’s making headlines across crypto circles. The second-largest cryptocurrency has had what could easily be described as a “horrible, no good, very bad” start to the year. Analysts, ever eager to predict the next crash or rise, have linked its struggles to various factors: the weakening economic model, the parasitic L2s, and Ethereum’s gas fees that are as high as your aunt’s expectations for your wedding. 🏠💸
And, of course, let’s not forget about the looming threat of regulation. With institutional interest in Ethereum still lagging behind Bitcoin, Ethereum’s market performance looks like a lost puppy waiting for a scrap of attention.
But wait! There’s hope! Ethereum’s Pectra and Fusaka upgrades (set for later this year) could save the day, promising core improvements that may finally address the network’s congestion issues. Maybe… just maybe… Ethereum will get faster and more efficient. Can we say “smooth sailing ahead?” (Maybe, but don’t bet your house on it.)
In the meantime, Ethereum seems to be clawing its way back from the depths. After briefly crawling from the $1,500 mark to $1,815, it dipped to $1,743. Still, that’s a 9.3% improvement over the last week. So, not all is lost… for now. It’s outperformed the broader crypto market, which gained a modest 8.10% in the same period. A small win, but a win nonetheless. 🍀
