Channing Tatum Keeps Pushing for His Gambit Solo Movie: “I’ve had such a long journey”

As a gamer with a soft spot for Marvel and a deep appreciation for Channing Tatum‘s journey as an actor, I can honestly say that witnessing Gambit’s appearance in “Deadpool & Wolverine” felt like seeing a long-lost friend finally show up at my doorstep after years of waiting. The character has been a part of my comic book world for so long, and to see Tatum bring him to life was nothing short of exhilarating.

The recently released “Deadpool & Wolverine” has become a hit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with its success attributed to the reappearance of multiple iconic Marvel characters in live-action form. Fan favorites like Snipes’ Blade, Garner’s Elektra, and Evans’ Human Torch returned, much to the delight of fans. Remarkably, a character who was once on the verge of starring in their own movie a decade ago made an unexpected appearance in this film as well.

If you’ve been following Channing Tatum or the movie’s publicity, you’re aware that Gambit appears with a limited screen time. However, delving into the character’s backstory underscores the lengthy and arduous process Tatum has gone through to eventually bring the character to life on screen.

Tatum and Gambit have a rich and complicated past. Together with his frequent partner and producer, Reid Carolin, Tatum crafted a proposal for a solo Gambit film. Their idea was to create an R-rated, humorous movie in the vein of Deadpool. While Fox found the idea appealing, they were hesitant about approving the project with Tatum or Carolin as directors since neither had any directorial experience. Keen on breathing life into the character, Tatum accepted their conditions.

Prior to the project’s progression, Disney acquired Fox, which ultimately resulted in the termination of the planned film.

Gambit stayed under the limelight until he suddenly appeared in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and Channing Tatum’s performance earned praise from many, reigniting discussions about giving him a standalone movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Afterward, it’s been made clear that Tatum had conversations with Bob Iger and Kevin Feige. He expressed that the movie’s outcome is now left to divine intervention. Furthermore, an earlier discarded scene from the film suggests Gambit managed to escape The Void, implying potential future developments for this character.

In a recent interview with Blink Twice, Tatum continued his campaign for a solo Gambit movie:

Over an extended period, I’ve shared a profound journey with this individual, delving into their character and tale. The sheer joy I felt when my friend allowed me to embody him and participate in the theatrical world of his film was immense.

A lot of people played their part in bringing “Deadpool & Wolverine” into existence, yet Taylor Kitsch (Tatum) particularly acknowledged his deep gratitude towards Ryan Reynolds for assisting him in materializing the character of Gambit.

10 years ago, I was part of the crowd witnessing Ryan Reynolds unveil Deadpool 1 for the first time. I believe I rushed backstage and gave him a heartfelt hug, exclaiming something along the lines of “Wow, you did it man! It’s perfect!” We weren’t close friends back then, but since then, Ryan has been one of the most supportive figures in my industry journey.
