Channing Tatum has been confirmed for the blockbuster Marvel movie “Avengers: Doomsday”, however, he himself suggests that the size of his character’s role might not meet fan expectations – at least for now.
More recently, Tatum had a chat with Roqui Theus from Extra at CinemaCon 2025. This event saw him receive the Distinguished Decade of Achievement in Film award. Looking back on his 20-year career, the actor shared some insights about his involvement with an upcoming Marvel film and what he’s been briefed on so far.
When inquired about becoming part of the colossal Avengers: Doomsday ensemble, Channing jokingly minimized his role. “All I was promised was a seat,” he chuckled, “They said I could at least watch the movie from the chair. You know, and it wasn’t even Gambit, just my name.
For years, Tatum has been connected with the Marvel character Gambit, a beloved mutant recognized for his charisma, ability to manipulate playing cards, and links to the X-Men. At long last, Tatum’s aspirations became reality as he embodied the role in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine movie.
Although some fans eagerly anticipated his inclusion in Avengers: Doomsday, Tatum himself has clarified that nothing is definite – at least not from his perspective. He further explained, “I operate in a realm of simple yes or no’s,” and added, “So far, I’ve only been assured a seat to watch the movie, so that’s where things stand for me.
Despite Tatum’s jovial remark, it’s evident that he too remains uncertain about his level of participation in the movie. For now, fans must exercise patience as they wait to see if Channing will eventually bring Gambit to life on the silver screen, following decades of speculation, abandoned projects, and hints.
Besides being part of the Avengers, Tatum found a moment to ponder about receiving the CinemaCon award and what it signifies when looking back on two decades of filmmaking. “They played something for me,” he confessed, “and I must admit, I felt quite uneasy watching it. I’m not one of those actors who enjoys watching themselves as much as I enjoy making movies.
