As an ardent fan, I can’t help but feel a deep admiration for Channing Tatum, not just for his acting prowess, but for his unwavering passion and persistence. For over a decade, he has been relentlessly pursuing the dream of playing Gambit in a standalone film, a testament to his dedication and love for the character.
Channing Tatum has long harbored aspirations for a standalone Gambit film, following his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. At the West Hollywood premiere of Blink Twice, he openly shared his eagerness to play the X-Men character in a solo movie.
He was optimistic about the possibility finally emerging and called on others to help achieve it. Tatum said to Variety reporter upon being asked about the solo film, “From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please.”
For a span of four years, Tatum together with his colleague Reid Carolin worked diligently on a self-contained Gambit movie for 20th Century Fox. However, these plans were abandoned after Disney completed its merger with Fox in 2019. Despite this setback, Tatum remains optimistic about the project and has voiced his ambitions to Marvel executives, specifically Bob Iger and Kevin Feige, who hold significant influence over the decision-making process.
He said, “I’ve course I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.”
In a post on Instagram, Tatum acknowledged Ryan Reynolds for his significant contributions in getting the character Gambit integrated into both Deadpool and Wolverine. Additionally, he gave credit to Reynolds for tackling the challenges that arose during their efforts to cast him as Gambit.
In the words of the actor from Magic Mike, he expressed gratitude towards Ryan Reynolds, stating, “I believed Gambit was gone forever. Yet, he battled for me and Gambit. I suspect my debt to him will last a lifetime.” For him, this chance held significant value, thus, he will always be thankful to Reynolds for his tenacity during that period.
After the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Tatum returns to the big screen with Blink Twice movie.
In the film “Blink Twice,” Tatum portrays a wealthy tech entrepreneur who invites his friends for a getaway at his secluded island. However, things don’t go as planned during the journey. Zoë Kravitz and E.T. Feigenbaum collaborated on writing this movie, with Kravitz also serving as its director. The debut of this film was significant for Kravitz and her partner, as it was their first public appearance together on a red carpet.
Kravitz valued Channing Tatum’s contributions throughout the filmmaking process and fondly called him her cherished partner in creativity. The movie, “Blink Twice,” is scheduled for release by Amazon MGM Studios on August 23rd.
