After many years, Chad Michael Murray will reappear as Jake in the forthcoming Freaky Friday sequel, as announced in a recent joint statement on Disney and Disney Studios’ Instagram pages.

In the post, they revealed a picture of the actor beaming as he sat on Jake’s motorcycle and hinted at his comeback with the caption, “Jake is back! Get ready for the new Freaky Friday installment in cinemas, 2025.”

In the 2003 fantasy comedy film “Fool’s Gold,” Murray acted as Anna Coleman’s romantic interest opposite Lindsay Lohan. At the same time, Jamie Lee Curtis brought the character of Anna’s mother, Tess Coleman, to life on screen.

In the upcoming continuation, it’s been several years since Tess and Anna inadvertently traded lives following their consumption of enchanted Chinese fortunes cookies. Now, Anna is a mother to one child and is about to gain another stepdaughter. As they navigate the complexities of merging their households, an unexpected turn of events reveals that such magical occurrences may not be limited to just one instance for these two women.

In May 2024, Chad Michael Murray expressed his potential interest in reprising the role of Jake during an interview with ET at the Mother of the Bride premiere. He mused, “What a wonderful idea! To revive Jake? It’s a role that held a significant place in my past.”

I’m thrilled to collaborate once more with the talented Mark Waters, who helmed Freaky Friday. Our past experience together was a major factor in my decision to take on Mother of the Bride. If they ever ask me to rejoin for a sequel, you can count on Jake being there too.

The production for “Freaky Friday 2” is underway, with Nisha Ganatra set as the director. Deadline reports that Sophia Hammons and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan have joined the cast as new members, while original cast members Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, Lucille Soong, and Rosalind Chao are set to return.
