CBS Expands Yellowstone Universe with High-Stakes Spinoff Y: Marshals; Here’s When It’s Set for Release and More Details

In a new development, the Yellowstone universe is venturing into uncharted territories, and this time it’s making its debut on CBS. The network has given the go-ahead to Y: Marshals, a spinoff from the hit Western drama, which will be part of their 2025-26 TV lineup. The series, featuring Luke Grimes reprising his beloved character, Kayce Dutton, offers a blend of frontier toughness and law enforcement.

In spring 2026, Y: Marshals is scheduled to debut, focusing on Kayce Dutton who teams up with an elite U.S. Marshals squad. Using his cowboy intuition and Navy SEAL skills, he brings justice to the rugged landscapes of Montana. The series is overseen by Spencer Hudnut, the producer behind SEAL Team, and is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, Luke Grimes, and others. The show extends the creative lineage of the Yellowstone universe, falling under MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

Among the seven new shows introduced by CBS are a spinoff series along with Boston Blue, CIA, and Sheriff Country, which are all continuations or follow-ups to existing or recently concluded CBS programs. Additionally, a fresh comedy titled DMV and unscripted shows like The Road, America’s Culinary Cup, and Harlan Coben’s Final Twist are also included in their lineup.

CBS is making changes to its established schedule as well. The FBI will air on Monday evenings alongside a fresh addition, CIA. They’re dedicating Tuesdays to NCIS, with NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney included, along with the returning NCIS. Friday nights will have Sheriff Country followed by Fire Country, while Boston Blue takes over from the long-standing Blue Bloods.

Moving forward, CBS is preparing for the 2026-27 season by renewing series like FBI and Ghosts for multiple years. The series Einstein, led by Matthew Gray Gubler, has been postponed. Additionally, CBS is working on a new Silicon Valley legal drama titled Cupertino, which is being developed by the creators of Elsbeth and Evil. With Y: Marshals leading the way, CBS aims to embark on an exciting new phase of interconnected universes and franchise storytelling.
