Bungie faces layoffs, major restructuring amidst success of Destiny 2
Despite the recent triumph of Destiny 2’s expansion, The Final Shape, Bungie, the famous studio known for its Destiny series, is undergoing substantial transformations. They are letting go of around 220 employees, which represents nearly 20% of their workforce, and are deepening their ties with their parent company, Sony. Furthermore, one of Bungie’s games in development is being spun off to become a standalone PlayStation studio. In the words of CEO Pete Parsons, this situation is a “challenging and agonizing day,” indicating the significant effects these changes will have not only on Bungie but also on the gaming industry as a whole.
