The Tomb Kings can now ally with other significant members of their race. However, Settra remains loyal only to himself, as fitting for his character. Tomb Kings acquire Canopic Jars by killing enemies in battle, which they can then use for decrees, research, or garrison attacks. Additionally, they can create a variety of new banners within the Mortuary Cult. Many of their characters have been given extra skills and even entire skill sets, while the tech tree has undergone significant changes. The Books of Nagash have been both revised and made more accessible. Lastly, pyramids now offer stronger bonuses.

Before diving into my experience playing Bloodlines 2 at Gamescom 2025, I feel compelled to emphasize that it’s important to approach this game as a unique entity rather than a direct continuation of the 2004 original. Those expecting a carbon copy may find themselves disappointed, but by recognizing and appreciating Bloodlines 2 for its own merits, we can truly evaluate it on its own terms.

In our game, Alexander Mishulin, one of the studio’s founders and creative directors, guided us through a mission. The player, along with his band of companions, which includes his twin brother, have fled Eros where the proto-molecule was released. They’ve managed to seize a ship from the opposing forces, ensuring it was a legitimate salvage operation, and now they’re modifying their home station’s transponder on this ship.

Instead, it was clarified at Gamescom 2025 that players will not have the ability to manually navigate their spaceship throughout the solar system.

The most unsettling new extraterrestrial lifeform discovered by the Weyland-Yutani vessel Maginot goes by the name “the octopus eye” or T. Ocellus officially. In the early episodes, we witnessed its terrifying behavior as it plucked out a cat’s eye from its socket and hijacked its cerebral functions. The fourth episode showed Prodigy CEO Boy Kavalier carrying a sacrificial sheep into his lab, only for the T. Ocellus to snatch the sheep’s eye and take control of the animal. Prodigy synth Kirsh (Timothy Olyphant) is already aware that this creature is highly intelligent, making its giant, gory eyeball all the more unsettling.

Towards the close of episode three titled “Metamorphosis,” we witness the Prodigy researchers in Neverland conducting tests on alien eggs they’ve captured, which hail from the wreckage of the Weyland-Yutani vessel named the Maginot. As character Kirsh (Timothy Olyphant) slices open the egg, he exposes a live facehugger, triggering agonizing and inexplicable suffering within hybrid Wendy. This distress emanating from the alien creature resonates with her telepathically, causing her to bend over in agony, eventually collapsing on the floor. This incident takes place post her brave act of protecting her brother from a Xenomorph earlier in the same episode.
