The following year, Ballantine published the first three novels together as The Vampire Chronicles, and sales exploded. For many Goth readers, these books were as important as The Lord of the Rings, offering a dark and romantic world filled with blood and mystery.

These days, most of us do our holiday shopping online. The days of battling crowds for popular toys, like Cabbage Patch Kids, are largely over. As a result, many department stores have closed, becoming relics of the past. Even K-Mart, once found in almost every town, has nearly disappeared – with only one store remaining in the continental U.S., located in Florida. It’s unlikely they still play background music for shoppers, but it would be incredible if an employee decided to play a 1974 playlist, instantly transporting everyone back in time. That would truly feel like a holiday miracle.
