New FIREFLY Animated Series Is in Development

Nathan Fillion announced at Awesome Con that a new animated series based on Firefly is in the works. The news came on the same day the planned reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was cancelled, but fans are happy to embrace this new dose of nostalgia. Fillion shared the update during a panel with many of his former Firefly co-stars, including Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, and Jewel Staite. It sounds like the entire original cast will reprise their roles by voicing their characters in the animated series, with Adam Baldwin also joining the project.

BUFFY Reboot Is Canceled, Not Happening at Hulu

Sarah Michelle Gellar shared disappointing news with fans on Instagram: the planned reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, titled Buffy: New Sunnydale, won’t be moving forward on Hulu. She said she was sad to deliver the news and expressed gratitude to director Chloé Zhao for the opportunity to revisit the role, adding that it reminded her how much she loves the character and how much Buffy means to her and her fans. She emphasized that the cancellation doesn’t diminish that love.

I absolutely love slasher movies! From iconic films like Scream to newer hits like the Fear Street trilogy, I’m a big fan of the classic “masked killer versus the final girl” story. I really enjoyed Ready or Not when it came out – a wealthy, cult-like family hunting their new bride? It was perfect! I even think Samara Weaving’s character, Grace, is one of the best final girls in recent years. So, I was thrilled to hear they were making a sequel, and it definitely lived up to my expectations.
