I remember when Paul Rudd really started to break out – it was with ‘Clueless’! He played Josh, Cher’s ex-stepbrother, and he was just perfect – funny, down-to-earth, and always kept her from floating away completely. That movie, written and directed by Amy Heckerling, was a huge deal for teen comedies and really launched the careers of a lot of young actors. Rudd was great because he could play the romantic interest and be genuinely funny in a really subtle way – it totally fit the movie’s quick, smart vibe. Honestly, that role is when I started seeing him cast in all those charming comedy roles, and it made sense – he just nailed that affable, likable thing.
