Black Actors Who Refuse to Audition for “Best Friend” Roles Anymore

Early in his career, Michael B. Jordan asked his representatives to stop seeking out roles written specifically for Black actors. He wanted to compete for leading roles traditionally reserved for white actors, determined to avoid being typecast in supporting roles. This approach worked – he gained recognition with ‘Fruitvale Station’ and became a worldwide star through the ‘Creed’ movies. Now, he runs his own production company dedicated to creating stories where Black characters take center stage as the heroes. By refusing to settle for secondary parts, Jordan has become a major leading man in Hollywood today.
