As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating through alternate realities and surviving apocalyptic scenarios, I can confidently say that “Rumours” has piqued my interest like no other. The blend of horror, comedy, and high-stakes politics is a tantalizing cocktail that promises to be an exhilarating ride.
Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander are a pretty great foundation for a movie about world leaders responding to a global crisis. Throw in Charles Dance and you’re pretty much guaranteed to have a film we’ll want to see. But those three are far from the only reason we’re excited about Bleeker Street’s upcoming apocalyptic horror-comedy Rumours. It has another big selling point. Something big and cerebral. Literally big and cerebral, actually. And also strange. The movie also stars a gigantic brain.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m pumped about the first trailer for Bleeker Street’s unique take on “Rumours”. This quick peek hints at a movie that’s bound to be mind-bendingly strange. Though details are scarce in this trailer, the intriguing vibes it exudes certainly give us a glimpse into its mysterious world. And if that’s not enough, the official synopsis seals the deal, promising an experience unlike any other. Can’t wait to dive in!
In a whimsical blend of comedy, disaster drama, and melodramatic romance, Rumours tracks the journeys of the seven heads of the world’s richest democracies at their yearly G7 summit. As they strive to create a preliminary agreement addressing a worldwide crisis, this ensemble cast, led by Cate Blanchett, Alicia Vikander, and Charles Dance, delivers surprising, uproarious performances. Amid the laughter, these leaders reveal themselves as inept figures, struggling with increasingly absurd challenges within the mystical woods as darkness falls and they suddenly find themselves isolated.
What about that big free-floating brain? Will those politicians find themselves under attack by the brain? Calling on the brain for help? Combining to form one single brain? And why are the world’s G7 leaders digging up a grave together?!? No idea, can’t wait to find out.
The film originates from director Guy Maddin, alongside writers Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson. Notably, Evan Johnson himself penned the screenplay. Actors such as Roy Dupuis, Zlatko Buric, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Takehiro Hira, Denis Ménochet, and Rolando Ravello contribute to its star-studded cast. Earlier this year, it made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival; however, theatergoers won’t be able to watch it until October 18.
Whose big idea was it to make the rest of us wait for something so intriguing? We have a theory…
