As a dedicated follower of Casey Affleck’s career, I must admit that his latest move with The Instigators has left me utterly thrilled! After witnessing his exceptional performances in dramas like Good Will Hunting, Manchester By The Sea, and Interstellar, it’s refreshing to see him venture into the realm of comedy.
Casey Affleck joins his longtime friend Matt Damon once more for an upcoming movie blend of thriller and comedy titled “The Instigators.” Notably, Casey Affleck has been recognized for roles in films like Good Will Hunting, Manchester By The Sea, Interstellar, and most recently a brief appearance in the Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer. Given his recent focus on dramatic and series projects, Casey found “The Instigators” to be a welcome change of pace!
In my pursuit of comedy roles, I’ve often found myself yearning for scripts that never seem to reach me. By the time I turned 20, it had become a recurring theme. However, as fate would have it, I stumbled upon a script by Chuck MacLean that was almost tailor-made for my aspirations in comedy. I shared this discovery with Entertainment Weekly.
Casey went through all the 20 scripts lying in McLean’s home that hadn’t been made into movies yet and discovered a suitable one. He then graciously allowed me to work on it for more than a year, he noted. Once he had a preliminary draft of the script and creative freedom, the first people he shared it with were Damon and his wife Lucy.
Although the Gone Baby Gone actor thought that he got the script to a place that would “dazzle” the readers, he got a lukewarm response from Damon and his wife. “Like it might be good enough with some work,” Casey said.
Following his decision to cast Damon in the film, the following move was securing the director they desired for the project – Doug Liman, known for directing Road House. The Martian actor had previously collaborated with him on the 2002 movie The Bourne Identity, and Casey was optimistic about getting Liman involved. Luckily, he succeeded!
The Ocean’s Eleven actor stated that Matt initially reached out to him, drew him in, and then dismantled everything on his own. Later, we collaboratively rebuilt the whole thing as a team.
In the heart of Boston, I find myself utterly captivated by a gripping tale that unfolds, where I, Rory (played masterfully by Damon), am a desperate father with a daring plan. Partnering with a reformed criminal, we concoct an audacious scheme to bring down a corrupt politician. Yet, as fate would have it, our heist takes an unexpected turn, plunging us into a whirlwind of danger. We’re not just running from the law, but also navigating through labyrinthine bureaucracy and retaliation from vengeful mob bosses, who relentlessly pursue us in this chaotic cat-and-mouse game.
The Instigators is now streaming globally on Apple TV+.
