The website was more than just a platform for cartoons; it was a portal to a world filled with laughter, adventure, and endless fun. It was where I spent countless hours watching Teen Titans GO!, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and many other shows that shaped my childhood.
Increasingly, precious internet content is disappearing, serving as a somber reminder that while websites may appear permanent, they can vanish in an instant. The most recent casualty is none other than CartoonNetwork.com. Warner Bros. Discovery has chosen to close down the Cartoon Network website, directing users instead towards Max for viewing their desired Cartoon Network content. Unfortunately, Max requires a subscription and seems to continually increase its price, in contrast to the free episodes of beloved shows that were once available on the Cartoon Network website. With a heavy heart, we bid farewell to CartoonNetwork.com.
Originally, Cartoon Network’s official site provided complete episodes and video clips for popular shows like “Teen Titans GO!”, “Adventure Time”, “Steven Universe”, and others. Additionally, it offered engaging games related to beloved Cartoon Network franchises. Anyone who spent their childhood in the late ’90s and early 2000s will recall these exciting show-related additions. However, unfortunately, all these enjoyable extras ceased to exist with the closure of Cartoon Network’s website.
Instead of directly loading CartoonNetwork.com, the site now redirects to “https://www.max.com/channel/cartoon-network”. This new page invites you to spend time with your children’s favorite shows by streaming animated content suitable for the whole family. Prices start at $9.99 per month. The Cartoon Network offerings are categorized on Max. Furthermore, a message pops up informing users that they can find their favorite Cartoon Network episodes on Max (requires subscription). To enhance safety and fun, Max allows you to create a Kids Profile with rating restrictions and additional privacy protections. Cable subscribers can still watch their favorite CN programming on TV and connected apps. Essentially, the original Cartoon Network website has been replaced by Max.
It appears Warner Bros. Discovery is strategically directing users towards their platform Max, which might be a cost-saving move of some sort. This isn’t an unusual practice, as Paramount Global recently took down MTV News archive and other sites, causing widespread criticism. It’s always disheartening when we lose access to online platforms, such as the Cartoon Network website, that have been a part of our digital past. Farewell, Cartoon Network!
