As a devoted fan and admirer of both music and American Idol, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement as Carrie Underwood returns to her roots as a judge on Season 23 of the show. With her exceptional talent, numerous accolades, and undeniable charisma, she is more than qualified to fill Katy Perry’s shoes.
Carrie Underwood, the American Idol Season 4 champion, is set to revisit her roots by joining Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan as judges on the upcoming Season 23 of American Idol. This marks a significant milestone nearly two decades after she started her career and won the title on this very show. While official confirmation is yet to be made by Underwood and ABC, it’s rumored that an announcement will be made today by Good Morning America and USA Today.
The country singer will take Katy Perry’s place on the judging team, who recently announced her departure from the show following seven seasons. She expressed a wish to travel and possibly create new music as her reasons for leaving. Recently, Katy released her latest single, Woman’s World, accompanied by a music video, hinting at her upcoming album titled 143.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m excited to share some exciting news about Katy Perry! After the release of “Smile” last August, she’s been busy working on new music, and I can’t wait for you all to hear it. Her upcoming single, titled “Lifetimes,” is particularly special as it draws inspiration from her 3 ½-year-old daughter Daisy. You can expect this heartfelt melody to hit the airwaves on August 9th. Additionally, mark your calendars for September 20th, when Perry’s song “143” will be released!
41-year-old Underwood, who emerged victorious in American Idol back in 2005 with judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell, has solidified her status as one of the show’s most accomplished alumni. Her home now boasts eight Grammy awards, along with other prestigious musical honors. Since then, she’s released nine albums and led numerous tours. Over the years, she’s also made frequent returns to American Idol, even serving as a mentor during Season 16.
Prior to Underwood, there were whispers that singers such as Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Miley Cyrus, and Meghan Trainor were potential candidates to fill the seat left empty by Perry.
Clarkeson, it should be noted, is yet another notable graduate of American Idol. Known for coaching contestants on NBC’s The Voice from Seasons 14 to 21 and then again on Season 23, Clarkeson was the very first winner of American Idol. In an interview with ET on July 7, she explained that she couldn’t take up the judge position on American Idol, even if offered, as she is currently based in New York with her children. Since accepting the Idol role would necessitate being in LA, this was the reason she had to step down from The Voice initially.
In May, the finale for the latest season of American Idol, which is Season 22, took place. The winner was 22-year-old Abi Carter from Indio, California, who claimed the title.
