As a devoted fan who has followed Robin Williams‘ remarkable journey through his artistry and philanthropy, I find myself utterly captivated by the profound impact he had not only on the world of entertainment but also on the lives of countless individuals he encountered off-screen. Having read about Zak’s heartwarming recollections of accompanying his father on walks in San Francisco, where Robin would extend a helping hand to those in need, I can’t help but feel humbled and inspired by the actor’s selfless nature.
Reflecting on his late father Robin Williams, Zak Williams – one of Robin’s sons – shared insights into his father’s compassionate character during an interview with People magazine at the 12th Annual Bring Change to Mind Revels & Revelations gala. In this gathering, Robin’s eldest son spoke about his father’s generosity and charitable deeds.
As a child, Zak often joined his father on strolls through San Francisco’s streets, and he remembered Robin frequently approaching homeless individuals, saying, “‘Hello boss, how can I assist you?'” before offering them meals, food, or money. Zak acknowledged that these acts of compassion from his father instilled in him a valuable lesson about kindness.
He had a profound love for those less fortunate, and I believe he taught me the true essence of kindness.” He continued, “Following the comedian’s death at 63 in 2014, Zak and his siblings Zelda and Cody vowed to uphold Robin’s charitable tradition.
In Zak’s words, his father placed great significance on aiding the betterment of humanity, which transcended simply making people laugh or discover more about themselves. He was committed to providing substantial assistance to various organizations, such as the Challenged Athletes Foundation, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, St. Jude’s, and numerous others, by contributing to their fundraising efforts and increasing public awareness of their causes.
The siblings feel deeply compelled to continue the significant work that was deeply meaningful to the Good Will Hunting actor. They imagine expanding upon what Robin had envisioned and are instinctively contributing to building resilience within people, particularly young ones. As a family, we see this as a natural method of preserving his memory,” said Zak, who was born to Robin with his first wife Valerie Velardi in 1983.
Lately, Zak published a moving tribute to commemorate his father who passed away 10 years ago. In the caption, he expressed, “Dad, I can hardly believe it’s been a decade.” He went on to reflect on the profound love you showed towards your family, friends, and everyone you crossed paths with.
In addition to carrying out charitable deeds in honor of his late father, Zak also serves as the chairperson for Glenn Close’s charity, Bring Change to Mind. This organization focuses on eliminating the social taboo surrounding mental health, while fostering understanding and education about this vital topic.
