‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Confirms a Hulk Appearance Was Considered

In “Captain America: Brave New World”, Anthony Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, steps up as the new Captain America amidst political turmoil, encounters with unruly superhumans, and questionable associates. The movie delves into a world marred by global turmoil and complex power dynamics.

Under the guidance of director Julius Onah (known for films such as ‘Luce’ and ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’), this movie features recurring characters like Tim Blake Nelson portraying The Leader, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, and an exciting newcomer: Harrison Ford stepping into the role of Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.

The movie contains numerous layers concerning characters and background details. The central narrative revolves around Sam, who grapples with the essence of being Captain America. Director Onah aimed to delve into a realistic and thought-provoking interpretation of Sam’s transformation. The plot mainly centers on his character development and the hurdles he encounters while employing his powers against insurmountable adversity.

Even though several characters from “The Incredible Hulk” reappeared, there was a notable absence: Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). The return of Ross, Betty, and Stearns led many to anticipate the arrival of the Hulk. However, Onah clarified the reasons behind this omission, explaining that the storyline was intentionally kept centered around Sam.

He expressed that, in essence, by the close of events, he’s content it turned out as it did – this tale belongs to Sam. This is Sam’s initial cinematic journey as Captain America. And fundamentally, we want the narrative to revolve around Sam utilizing his powers to conquer adversity.

Instead of having Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk appear in the movie, Onah thought it was better to keep the spotlight on Sam’s character and narrative.
