Capcom cooked up some extremely cursed Palico outfits in Monster Hunter Wilds

As a seasoned Monster Hunter gamer, I’ve found that there are numerous customs tied to this game – from feasting before a hunt, constantly honing my weapon, and hoarding every item in sight (I’ve got more herbs than I know what to do with by now). Yet, the tradition that truly tickles me is decking out my feline companion in the quirkiest, most eye-catching gear available.

As a dedicated fan of Monster Hunter World, let me share my thoughts: The Palico outfits in this game are downright bizarre! I’ve been with the series for quite some time now and I’ve grown accustomed to the series’ quirky side, especially when it comes to feline fashion. But this time around, Capcom has truly taken things to a whole new level.

The moment I defeated The Black Flame and found that its outfit could transform my Palico into an actual squid… well, let me tell you, it’s not even a cat anymore! It’s mind-boggling, really.

I am at a loss for words to convey my affection for the peculiar aspects of the Nu Udra attire, particularly when paired with Rompopolo’s levitating cat brain in a jar. It came as a delightful surprise to discover that your Palico dons whatever outfit it’s currently wearing in any replayed cutscenes. To my knowledge, no scene is less captivating without the unexpected emergence of an octopus bearing a floating brain, replacing your pet in these instances—enjoy some of my cherished moments captured in the videos provided.

As I unveiled additional armor options for my Palico and hunter, including secret sets, I came to understand that the tentacles were merely the beginning. I discovered ways to transform my Palico into various forms such as a stone golem (Azuz), a monkey (Blanconga), or even a robot (Artian), albeit the latter bears a striking resemblance to a floating trashcan. However, these transformations are more adorable than ominous. There’s also a cosmetic option for my Palico (Suja) that places a tiny frog on its head, who simply sits there, contentedly.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, I find it quite enjoyable to adorn my Felyne companion, serving as a pleasant diversion from the reality that the Palico structures have been significantly reduced compared to Rise. In Rise, we had the opportunity to recruit, train, and enhance two unique companions – Palico and Palamute. However, in Wilds, you mainly level up your Palico, select its equipment, which seems to be the extent of customization available.

Here are a few methods to enhance your cat (Palico), such as acquiring the Palico Rally skill on gear like the Kunafa set or by accomplishing quests to unlock additional Palico abilities, but it offers far fewer options compared to the previous game. Although this may appeal to those who aren’t keen on crafting Palico builds, it is one of those aspects that I believe takes away more than it adds in terms of streamlining.

In light of no further meals from the Meowscular Chef, feline-loving enthusiasts have faced a challenging situation recently. Fingers crossed for additional Palico additions in future updates and expansions! At least we can look forward to some fun cursed cat cosmetics until then.
