At the Cannes Film Festival 2025, Tom Cruise brings an elegant conclusion to Ethan Hunt’s Mission: Impossible saga, earning a five-minute standing ovation. The grand premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Last Hurrah served as a grandiose farewell, celebrating Cruise’s enduring impact within the high-octane franchise.
At an event, a 40-piece orchestra performed the iconic theme tune from the popular franchise. This piqued the audience’s excitement levels, as reported by Variety. Although the film’s thrilling stunts were impressive, its lengthy duration left some viewers feeling drained. Towards the movie’s climax, filled with Tom Cruise’s signature daring acrobatics, it grew too intense for certain audience members, according to the publication.
62-year-old movie icon left longtime fans breathless with his dedication to physical fitness. In a particularly talked-about scene from the film, Cruise engaged in an extended knife fight on a submersible while only wearing boxer briefs. Additionally, he performed part of a challenging underwater sequence dressed similarly, showcasing his commitment to on-screen authenticity.
As the applause continued, Top Gun actor Tom Cruise along with director Christopher McQuarrie (of Mission Impossible fame) acknowledged the audience. McQuarrie praised the cast for their dedication, acknowledging that the movie’s success was a result of their hard work and perseverance. Meanwhile, Cruise addressed the crowd, sharing fond memories from his time with the franchise and expressing gratitude for having entertained audiences for three decades.
Cruise started by expressing gratitude towards the exceptional cast, noting that their exceptionalism wasn’t merely about turning up for work each day. He emphasized that this movie was produced amidst a pandemic and two industrial disputes in the industry.
For nearly a decade, these two movies were created amidst much doubt, numerous pauses reflecting their commitment, diligence, and fervent devotion to this project. It’s important to acknowledge that the success of these films wouldn’t have been achieved without the tireless efforts of everyone here. Truly, this cast is extraordinary on a global scale,” he emphasized.
In “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” which hits theaters on May 23 via Paramount Pictures, Tom Cruise teams up with Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett, and other notable stars.
