Callum Vinson will play Atreus in the upcoming live-action God of War series on Prime Video. The show is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions.
Based on the incredibly popular PlayStation game series inspired by mythology, the project has been greenlit for two seasons. Currently in pre-production in Vancouver, the team is now actively casting actors.
Who Is Atreus in God of War?
Atreus is Kratos’s ten-year-old son. He grew up hidden away in a forest cabin with his mother, Faye. He’s a skilled archer who loves animals and is eager to learn about the world outside his sheltered life.
After his mother dies, Atreus is raised by a father, Kratos, who struggles to connect with him. As they embark on a perilous quest, Atreus desperately wants his father’s acceptance and to prove his strength. Meanwhile, Kratos tries to prepare Atreus for godhood, but Atreus hopes to help his father rediscover his human side.
Callum Vinson’s Growing Resume
This is Vinson’s third time working with Sony Pictures Television. He’s also set to appear in the next season of Netflix’s The Night Agent, and previously had a leading role in Peacock’s Long Bright River.
Vinson is represented by Rebel Creative Group and Innovative Artists.

Confirmed Cast for God of War
The cast already includes Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Max Parker as Heimdall, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
Creative Team Behind the Series
Frederick E.O. Toye, a director who has won an Emmy Award, will be directing the first two episodes. He’s previously worked on popular shows like Shōgun, The Boys, and Fallout.
As a huge fan of the show, I’ve been following who’s behind the scenes, and it’s quite a team! Ronald D. Moore is really the driving force – he’s showrunner, an executive producer, and also writes episodes. But he’s supported by a lot of other talented people as executive producers – Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon all have significant roles. Then there’s a group of co-executive producers, including Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis, who are clearly vital to making everything happen.
In God of War, Kratos and his son, Atreus, travel together to scatter the ashes of a loved one, Faye. Their journey is a powerful story about dealing with loss, what we leave behind, and the challenging relationship between a father and his son.
