Okay, so Can Build A Rocket Boy really messed up the launch of MindsEye, and it’s been pretty rough. But they’re hoping to fix things with Arcadia, which is basically a set of tools that lets us players build our own stuff inside the game. Hopefully, it’ll save MindsEye and give us something fun to do!
Arcade was initially designed as a central feature of Everywhere, a platform for user-generated content similar to Fortnite or Roblox. It was intended to demonstrate the platform’s potential and give players something to experience while creators developed more complete games. However, things didn’t go as planned. MindsEye, a smaller experience within Arcade, launched first and was poorly received, leading to criticism of the developers. They initially blamed external interference for the game’s issues, but it became clear the problems stemmed from the game’s own flaws.
It appears the company is trying to build both Everywhere and Arcadia using MindsEye as the central component, which seems like a backwards approach built on a shaky base. This strategy feels like a desperate attempt to succeed, highlighted by the plea in Arcadia’s announcement trailer – a simple request to “play my game.”
