BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot On the Way, Sarah Michelle Gellar Is Back as The Chosen One

Sarah Michelle Gellar has long expressed no interest in reprising her role as Buffy Anne Summers, “The Chosen One.” However, following the success of revival series like “Dexter: Original Sin,” where she currently stars, Gellar has hinted at a possible change of heart. Now, it’s confirmed that “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is making a comeback to fight the undead once more, in a reboot series on Hulu. According to Variety, the pilot has been given an official green light by Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman, with the former “Poker Face” showrunners set to write, run, and executive produce. Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao is also attached to direct and executive produce the “Buffy” reboot, although this may only apply to the pilot episode.

In the new series carrying on from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” the primary focus will shift to a fresh Slayer. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the original Buffy Summers, will make recurring appearances instead of leading this reboot. The original series finale in 2003 showed an influx of new Slayers worldwide. This opens up the possibility that these Slayers could benefit from Buffy’s guidance as a mentor, given her status as the Prime Slayer. Essentially, we can expect this revival to revolve around Buffy revisiting her slayer duties in some capacity. However, we’ll have to wait for more information to confirm these details.

In this new version of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” you might notice that Joss Whedon, the original creator and showrunner, is not listed among the team. While it was once unthinkable to imagine a “Buffy” series without his creative influence, recent events have made his name less than desirable. Allegations of an unpleasant work environment have been leveled against him by some of his former “Buffy” and “Justice League” cast members. However, due to his role as the show’s creator, it is likely he will receive some compensation for the series, even if he is no longer involved creatively. As for the rest of the original cast or writers, we have yet to hear any confirmations about their involvement in the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot sequel series. Keep an eye out for more updates on this exciting project as they become available.
