Brooke Shields Recalls Giving Daughter Grier THIS Advice Before Her Runway Debut At New York Fashion Week

As an ardent fan of Brooke Shields, I’ve always admired her strength and grace both on and off the screen. Her latest journey with her daughter Grier Henchy, stepping into the world of fashion during New York Fashion Week, is yet another testament to their unbreakable bond and shared passion.

For the initial time, Brooke Shields’ daughter, Grier Henchy, stepped onto a catwalk during New York Fashion Week, participating in the Tommy Hilfiger show on September 18th. Notably, Shields, who gained prominence as both a model and an actress, was filled with admiration for her daughter’s debut performance, despite never having walked the runway herself.

In awe, I found myself speechless by my daughter’s performance,” Shields shared with PEOPLE exclusively. “I just can’t teach that. I don’t know how she manages to move like that.

Even with her experience in modeling, Shields struggled to provide runway advice. She explained that posing for magazine shoots is a distinct skill compared to walking the runway. On the day she spoke to Grier, despite not having much useful guidance to offer, Shields humorously shared one tip.

When Grier sought advice from her mother about an important event, Shields offered a humorous yet appropriate suggestion. “Grier asked, ‘What should I do?'” Shields chuckled, remembering. “I said, ‘Look hungry and angry.'” Grier’s response was one of mock frustration. “She replied, ‘You’re no help,'” Shields disclosed. “I responded, ‘I never walked the runway. I don’t know how to do this.’

Shields expressed her immense pride in her daughter’s commitment. “She took everything so seriously,” Shields explained. “She absorbed education from anyone willing to teach, and she didn’t think she knew more, which I was extremely proud of,” Shields further stated that Grier was eager to learn and valued the wisdom of those with modeling experience.

In a 2023 interview on Live with Kelly and Mark, it was revealed that Shields, who is mother to 21-year-old Rowan Henchy, had initial reservations about Grier’s decision to venture into modeling. Previously, she admitted to having resisted her daughter’s modeling aspirations.

She acknowledged that she had struggled with something for a long time. Nowadays, the industry is completely transformed. She’s drawn to the runway segment, but it’s tough. To be honest, I didn’t venture into the runway scene. Given my experience, I don’t believe I could have coped with it.

Considering the evolutions and difficulties faced in the fashion industry, Shields expressed that walkway modeling isn’t an effortless journey. The actress from Suddenly Susan confessed that though she appreciated editorial work, the requirements of runway modeling exceed most people’s expectations. Shields acknowledged the industry’s progression and admitted that along with it, the pressures have grown as well.

In the end, I understood that I needed to encourage my daughter’s aspirations while establishing clear limits. So, I had to concede and state, “If you’re set on this path, I won’t be your manager. Instead, you’ll be with an agency. You’ll need a strong work ethic, and it won’t always be easy. But know that I’ll always have a say.
