As a lifelong Marvel fan who’s spent countless hours poring over comic books and patiently waiting for the big-screen adaptations, I can’t help but feel a pang of both excitement and trepidation about the latest developments. The rumored shift from an MI13/Excalibur series to a standalone Captain Britain project has left me with mixed emotions.
Lately, Marvel Studios has encountered a few hurdles. Following the end of the Infinity Saga, their productions have garnered mediocre to average ratings at most, and they’ve had some notable failures at the box office.
Consequently, many upcoming projects have been put on hold, as Bob Iger declared that the studio is planning to reduce its creative production in the near future.
Fans in Britain have consistently expressed a desire for stories featuring characters originating from the UK, as many notable comic figures are British. Although we had Secret Invasion last summer, which transpired in Europe, I personally found it hard to watch and it hasn’t been popular among viewers.
It’s been reported that Marvel Studios might have been planning an MI13/Excalibur series, but these reports seem to have disappeared now.
In simple terms, MI13, short for Military Intelligence Section 13, is a British agency that deals with unusual or paranormal occurrences. This team works in collaboration with MI5, MI6, GCHQ, and DI within the broader UK intelligence community. The Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) oversees MI13’s operations. Their primary role is to safeguard Britain from threats that are mystical, extraterrestrial, or superhuman in nature.
Lately, Alex Perez, an industry expert, shared during a Discord Q&A session that there were developments regarding the show based on his sources. However, it seems like he’s hinting that these developments might not be ongoing anymore.
Futers11: When can I get a British MCU show or movie?
Alex: They were working on an MI13/Excalibur project.
Perez’s revelation corresponds with news we published some time ago: it seems the speculated MI13 project has allegedly been transformed into a solo Captain Britain production. The notion of Captain Britain becoming part of the MCU isn’t fresh, as whispers about it have existed since 2018. For those unaware, Captain Britain, also known as Brian Braddock, isn’t simply a British counterpart to Captain America. Debuted in 1976, he wields magical abilities bestowed by Merlyn, making him both a superhero and mystical sentinel. His tales frequently explore the realm of magic, which could add an enticing fresh dimension to the MCU.
Lately, there’s been talk that Henry Cavill could potentially take on the role of Captain Britain within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sparking excitement among fans who are wondering whether he’d be a strong contender should the project progress.
However, fans have had mixed reactions to this “news”:
I’m hoping that “I hope” doesn’t imply that development has only been in the past tense.

It seems Eternals 2 has been cancelled, leaving fans wondering, “When will Black Knight make an appearance next?” We certainly don’t want to see another instance of a talented actor being underutilized repeatedly.
