In 2022, I had the chance to witness a chilling horror masterpiece titled “Talk to Me,” which sent shivers down my spine and left me craving more. This spine-tingling debut from Australian twin directors Danny and Michael Philippou, about an eerie embalmed hand that serves as a gateway to the other side, was met with immense acclaim. Not only did it send ripples through the horror community, but it also raked in an impressive $92 million at the box office, on a budget of just $4 million. Now, these talented filmmakers are ready to unveil their long-awaited second offering, another chilling tale from A24. Bring Her Back features Sally Hawkins, known for her role in The Shape of Water, alongside newcomers Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, and Jonah Wren Phillips. The trailer offers eerie visuals and an unsettling atmosphere, leaving the plot largely a mystery. Based on the brief glimpse provided, it seems that the film might share some similarities with Pet Sematary, possibly involving ancient magic used to resurrect a deceased child. Additionally, as in Pet Sematary, a housecat appears to play a significant role.
If the film “Bring Her Back” is even close to the quality of “Talk To Me“, we believe that directors Danny and Michael Philippou could join the ranks of modern horror greats like James Wan, Jordan Peele, or Ari Aster. Today’s generation of horror filmmakers is brimming with imaginative visionaries who create unforgettable films. It appears that studio A24 is releasing a significant number of these masterpieces nowadays. We hope “Bring Her Back” adds another success to A24’s impressive catalog, following in the footsteps of classics such as “Hereditary“, and more recently, “Heretic“.
